Canvas and Oil Painting Supports

The surface is the soul of your artwork; it is useless to use the finest oil paints if the base does not respond well. That is why at Hartem we have selected stable surfaces with the ideal priming to withstand the drying oil load of this technique.

Types of canvases and surfaces for oil painting

Every artist works differently. Depending on your style and your studio space, you can choose from these formats:

Stretched wooden frame canvases: The undisputed classic. Available in 100% cotton or linen fabrics.
Canvas boards and panels: Rigid supports perfect for plein air painting, quick studies, or artists seeking a firm base that won't give under a palette knife.
Oil painting pads and paper: Heavyweight sheets that offer the best alternative for practicing glazes, sketching, or painting without taking up space.

We stock a huge variety of sizes (figure, landscape, and marine formats) so you can find the exact base your next piece requires.
