Be enchanted by Gustav Klimt, with the complete catalogue of his paintings, including new photographs from the Stoclet Frieze series (in Brussels). A century after his death, the Viennese artist still surprises us with his unabashed eroticism, his dazzling surfaces and his artistic experimentation. A master of the 19th century and a pioneer of the Secessionist movement, Klimt created a legacy of sumptuous tones and gold leaf textures, including such celebrated works as The Kiss and Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I (The Golden Lady).
Defining decadence
The legacy of Gustav Klimt
A century after his death, the Viennese artist Gustav Klimt (1862-1918) still continues to amaze with his unabashed eroticism, dazzling surfaces and artistic experimentation. In this monograph we bring together all of Klimt's key works together with authoritative art-historical notes and material from his personal archive. Lavishly illustrated, and including new photography from the acclaimed Stoclet Frieze series, the book traces Klimt's career and his prominent role in the Secessionist movement of 1897, his faithful depiction of the female body, and his dazzling golden age, in which gold leaf brought texture and brilliant tone to such celebrated works as The Kiss and Portrait of Adele Bloch Bauer I, also known as The Golden Lady.
