Gillian Ayres Tate Collection Winsor & Newton The iconic British art gallery TATE and the Winsor & Newton have come together to launch five new sets of materials and colors related to well-known artists in each of these mediums: oil, acrylic, watercolor, ink, and pencil. This drawing set is inspired by the artist Gillian Ayres. She was an English painter best known for abstract painting and printmaking with vibrant colours. His work is dominated by a limited number of colors arranged in simple shapes. Ayres took a different approach, combining the painting process with printmaking. While printmaking gives relatively consistent results, you can vary the color and process to allow for unique features, she went a step further and used print with paint. The hand-made markings and gestures worked to harmonize his paintings and allowed him to keep going until he reached the "mood" he was looking for in the work.
