Sennelier oil essence

• Mineral thinner for oil colours and varnishes. Mineral spirits have the advantage over vegetable-based alcohols that they keep better in contact with air.
• Due to its mineral origin, it evaporates more quickly than rectified turpentine.
• Ideal for applying thin first coats, it makes the application of oil colours easier, stimulating their drying, without leaving any residue.
• Useful to achieve various effects, such as glazes, transparencies, etc., mainly on backgrounds.
• When used in excess in oil colours, it can produce cracks, crazing, shading due to different porosity, loss of saturation of the colours, etc., mainly in the last layers of the work.
• It can also be used for cleaning tools without drying them out.
• Mix well the oil colour and the petroleum essence until the right fluidity is achieved for the work to be done.
• Given its good diluting power, the possible mixing proportions are very variable, being always the user's judgement or opinion the rule to follow.
