Canson

Canson was founded in 1557 in Annonay (France). Canson has been manufacturing high-quality paper supports for nearly 500 years, adopted by artists such as Ingres, Picasso, or Miró.

Canson combines technical innovation and paper tradition.

What types of paper does Canson offer?

Canson Fine Art Papers

Choosing the right support defines the final finish of the artwork. At Hartem we offer a wide catalog of papers, ensuring that each support meets the appropriate standards for each artistic technique.

From acid-free alpha-cellulose formulations to 100% cotton papers, Canson guarantees resistance to yellowing over time and maximum chromatic fidelity.

Papers for wet techniques

In wet techniques, the choice of paper weight (gsm / lb) and grain determines water absorption. If you are looking to buy a watercolor pad, Canson Montval is the ideal choice, offering a fine grain surface resistant to heavy washes.

Furthermore, the Canson XL watercolor range offers a spiral format that is very useful for daily practice. For more demanding work, the Coton d'Art line provides the flexibility and absorption characteristic of pure cotton.

Paper for dry techniques

In dry techniques, the texture of the support regulates the adherence of graphite, pastel, or markers. The Canson Basik (available in A4 [8.3 x 11.7 in / 21 x 29.7 cm] 130 gsm / 88 lb or Manipack formats) remains the standard for its durability.

For dry media with high pigment loads, Canson Mi-Teintes stands out for its honeycomb grain on one side and is made with 50% cotton that retains dust without clogging the pores.

Those working with watercolor pencils, ink, or mixed media will find in the Canson XL Mix Media sketchbook and the Canson Graduate range the balance between heavy weight and a balanced textured surface. For greasy and dense wet techniques, the Canson acrylic pad 400 gsm / 185 lb fine grain supports oil and acrylic loads without warping or requiring prior priming.

As an official Canson US distributor, at Hartem we have over 280 items in stock and the expertise of a team specialized in Fine Arts.
