The curvimeter - or opisometer - is a device that measures the length of curved lines and helps to calculate the distance between two points on a map more accurately than a ruler or compass.
The mechanism consists of a measuring wheel, a dial and a needle.
By moving the wheel on a map along the line you want to measure, you will rotate the needle around the graduated quadrant with different units of measurement. Then all you have to do is check the scale on the map and multiply the result of the measurement by the denominator of the scale.
