- The Rembrandt oil colours range consists of 120 colours, all with the highest degree of lightfastness, a good balance between the different colour ranges and a balanced distribution between opaque and transparent colours. Some colours to highlight:
LINSEED OIL-BASED AND SAFFLOWER OIL-BASED WHITES.
Zinc white 117 and titanium white 118 are made from linseed oil, the other whites are made from safflower oil. Linseed oil results in a strong paint film but yellows somewhat over time. Safflower oil results in a paint film with other characteristics but hardly yellows at all. White based on safflower oil has less durable results in layered paintings where the white forms the base on which colours based on linseed oil are painted. It is therefore advisable to use safflower oil white only in the last phase of the painting.
TRANSPARENT WHITE
A very transparent white made from transparent titanium white pigment. For the application of white glazes and for lightening other colours in glazes.
RED AND YELLOW TRANSPARENT
Completely transparent colours which are also very pure.
CADMIUM COLOURS
Durable colours, traditionally used for their high light fastness and covering power.
PERMANENT YELLOWS AND REDS
Semi-opaque, highly lightfast alternatives to traditional cadmium colours.
PERMANENT CHALK LACQUERS
Grenache lacquers have always had a rather moderate lightfastness. In the Rembrandt oil colour range, the traditional 'lacquer pigments' have been replaced by modern, very stable real pigments.
COBALT COLOURS
A series of very reliable and exclusive cobalt colours in many blue, violet and green shades.
TRANSPARENT IRON OXIDES
A series of highly transparent and very durable earth colours.
SHIMMERING METALLIC COLOURS
A series of dazzling and reliable metallic colours made from iriodine pigments. In contrast to the copper or zinc powder used to imitate gold and silver colours, iriodine pigments do not oxidise on contact with air. This means that no colour change will occur over time. Pearl white An extraordinary colour for blends with the lustre of mother-of-pearl. In combination with the transparent colours, it provides a whole range of pearlescent shades. Applications stand out more on dark substrates.
All oil colours are vegan except those containing pure Pbk9 pigment and in blends (Ivory Black and Warm Gray).
