They are used to pick up the gold leaf from the pompon (whole or fragmented depending on the size of the polonaise) and then place it on the surface to be gilded.
The hair for these pieces is obtained from a Kazan squirrel, which has fine hairs so as not to leave any marks on the gold leaf.
It retains perfectly any liquid with low viscosity, it stipples well and its fine ribbing makes it also ideal for watercolour, ceramics or porcelain.
It has a paper base.
