Las mujeres detrás de Picasso E Tenenbaum Spanish is available to buy in increments of 1

The Women Behind Picasso focuses on the protagonists of both the life and work of the famous painter. Olga Khokhlova, Dora Maar, Françoise Gilot and Jacqueline Roque are just some of the names that inspired the Malaga-born painter, helped him to promote his work and looked after him at every stage of his life. How much do we know about him and how much about them? Women of overflowing talent, they all had to overcome innumerable obstacles and face the violence that both the artist and the environment in which they lived and, later, historiography and its gender biases poured on them. This book brings us closer to the biographies of those who made Pablo become Picasso and of those who existed not thanks to the painter, but in spite of him.

Eugenia Tenenbaum, art historian and expert in gender perspective, traces the profiles of each of the protagonists. Using a variety of genres and literary resources, she reconstructs fragments of the lives of these fascinating women to return them to the place where they should always have been.

Both the cover and the interior illustrations are by nine important artists: Naranjalidad, María Hesse, Laura Agustí, Esther Gili, Lady Desidia, María Herreros, Ana Santos, Isa Muguruza and Sara Herranz.

The Women Behind Picasso is a work to question history, to discover and better understand some essential chapters of our most recent past and to approach art in an inclusive and fair way, which understands artistic creation as a collective effort rather than as an individual work.
