Watercolour Box

If practicality is your priority, let’s talk about watercolor boxes. Buying single pans or tubes is common, but a watercolor box or set typically delivers better value for the product and makes handling and storage easier.

Watercolor boxes, kits and sets: key features

Their compact, portable form is a real plus for creators who enjoy painting outdoors or need to move around with their gear. Options include plastic, wooden and metal boxes.

They come in many sizes—but how many colors do you really need? You can mix a complete palette from the three primaries, though beginners may find this a bit demanding.

At Hartem we stock cases, boxes, kits and sets of watercolors from 6 to 48 pans, plus tubes or pans.

Our advice: pick what best fits your needs and the projects you have in mind. You can also build a custom palette with individual watercolors and place them in an empty box.

Highlighted brands include Daniel Smith, Sennelier, Sakura and Kuretake, among others.

Consider these criteria when buying: transparency, pigment quality, lightfastness, staining and granulation.

Gouache Boxes

If you prefer a denser, more opaque medium, gouache (or tempera) is a great pick.

Like watercolor, it’s water-soluble, but offers a creamier body and stronger coverage. Artists often combine it with watercolor or use it as a complement.

Choose from single gouache or tempera colors, plus sets and cases in plastic, cardboard, metal or wood.

We also carry leading fine-art brands: White Nights, Talens and Caran d’Ache
