Liquid drying varnish Charbonnel Lefranc and Bourgeois
Charbonnel liquid drying varnish is used to protect and preserve etching plates during the etching process.
It is applied to the metal plate with a brush or roller and then left to dry. Once dry, the varnish acts as a barrier that protects unwanted areas of the plate during the etching stage.
It is acid resistant and allows for greater precision in the etching process. After applying the varnish, incisions can be made in the areas to be etched, exposing the underlying metal. The plate is then immersed in an acid that attacks the exposed areas and creates the desired lines and textures in the etching. Once the etching process is complete, the remaining varnish is removed and the die can be printed.
It is also recommended to work in a well-ventilated area and to use personal protective equipment, such as gloves and safety goggles, when handling chemicals related to etching.
It provides a layer of protection over the engraving plate and allows for greater precision in the design and execution of the engraving.
