During confinement by Covid-19 in 2020, David Hockney was in Normandy and recorded the arrival of spring in vibrant iPad paintings.
Over one hundred new iPad paintings on display at the Royal Academy of Arts in 2021.
Published to accompany the exhibition at the Royal Academy of Arts, 23 May to 26 August 2021.
In early 2020, just as global restrictions due to the Covid-19 pandemic were beginning to be enforced, the artist David Hockney was at his home, studio and garden in Normandy. From there, he witnessed the arrival of spring and captured the blossoming of the surrounding landscape on his iPad, a medium he has used for over a decade.
Working outdoors was, for Hockney, an antidote to the anxiety of the moment: "We need the art, and I really believe it can relieve stress," he says.
This inspiring publication, created to accompany a major exhibition at the Royal Academy of Arts, includes 116 of his new iPad paintings and showcases Hockney's unique ability to capture the exuberance of nature.
