Frida Kahlo at Home explores the influence of Mexican culture and tradition, La Casa Azul and other places Frida Kahlo called home, on her life and work.
La Casa Azul, now one of Mexico City's most visited museums, was the artist's birthplace and the home where she grew up. Health problems and a tram accident in her youth forced her to spend long periods convalescing at home, during which she began to paint for entertainment. Over time, she developed a distinctive style that not only reflected episodes from her own life, but also conveyed a powerful political message.
After marrying the renowned artist Diego Rivera, Frida moved out of La Casa Azul and lived in other residences both in Mexico and abroad, until she finally returned to her childhood home, transforming it into a space that reflected her deep devotion to Mexican culture.
Fully illustrated, this book presents Frida's paintings alongside archival images and family photographs, as well as objects and artefacts she collected and images of the landscape around her. In doing so, it offers a unique insight into how these places shaped the beloved artist and how the homes and landscapes of her life are reflected in her work.
