Emilia Pardo Bazán made her own the mottoDe bellum luce, light in battle. A fighter, ahead of her time and with a fierce impetus, she defined herself as a radical feminist. A torrent that needed a city to suit her, a space of freedom where she could fulfil her yearning for culture and modernity.

Madrid was the place where she lived and developed her writing, a place that deserved to be narrated. Because, as well as being an excellent novelist, it can be said with certainty that Doña Emilia had all the attributes to be a great chronicler: a vast culture, a wealth of language, an enormous interest and curiosity for everything that surrounded her, and a total lack of prejudice.

Her chronicles of Madrid become the best guide to get to know not only the city and its society, but also the woman with the most overwhelming personality in Castilian literature.
