Copic

Copic

Founded in Japan in 1987 by Too Corporation, the Copic brand transformed drawing desks by creating markers with alcohol-based ink that would not dissolve photocopy toner. Since then, they have established themselves as the finest markers for manga drawing, graphic design, architecture, and general illustration.

Copic Ranges

Copic Sketch markers are available in 358 shades with an ergonomic oval barrel and identification codes on both caps.

Copic Ciao markers comprise 180 colours in a round format, designed for students or those taking their first steps.

Both ranges share the iconic Super Brush nib —a flexible polyurethane brush nib that simulates traditional brushwork— alongside the Medium Broad chisel nib. When working on paper such as smooth satin finish or medium-weight paper (100 to 250 gsm), their fibres prevent bleeding and allow you to create flawless colour gradations.

Copic Ink markers offer the great advantage of being reusable. The Copic Ink refill bottles feature a non-drip nozzle that allows a marker to be refilled between 7 and 9 times; the ink is acid-free.

Furthermore, the markers feature interchangeable nibs, replacement tweezers, and the Colourless Blender, facilitating everything from smooth transitions to edge correction or lighting effects.

The Copic Classic range features a distinctive square barrel, which not only prevents the marker from rolling off the desk but also holds the largest ink capacity in the entire family (0.08 fl oz / 2.5 ml).

Copic Classic features the Fine Nib combined with the usual Medium Broad chisel nib.

Copic Color System:

Each of the 358 Copic colours (Copic Classic, Sketch, and Ciao) features a colour system, and each letter and digit carries a specific meaning:

To understand the coded colour palette, the official Copic system uses an alphanumeric code:

  • Initial letters: Indicate the colour family (for example, B for blues, YG for yellow-green).
  • First digit (0 to 9): Indicates the degree of saturation or purity (the closer to 0, the more saturated).
  • Second digit (000 to 9): Corresponds to the brightness value (low numbers represent light shades and high numbers deep shadows).
