Pebeo Marbling Paint 35g
Pebeo presents its Marbling range of colours, perfect for creating marbled effects.
Suitable for use on light-coloured surfaces: fabric, paper, card, recycled paper, wood, plaster…
The Marbling colours are used following a technique inspired by the marbling of rice paper practised in Japan in the 11th century and later adapted in Europe by 19th-century bookbinders.
The technique involves transferring colours simply by bringing the object to be decorated into contact with a coloured surface.
When applying to fabric, the colours must be set with an iron.
The thickening bath can be used for several successive creations. However, it is best to use a small amount of thickening bath and then replace it.
On some surfaces, the marbling colours may lighten slightly as they dry.
It is possible to decorate objects using marbling colours. If the object is flat, the process is the same as for fabric and paper. If it is three-dimensional, simple shapes are preferable, so that all sides of the object are in contact with the coloured bath. Rotate the object on the surface of the bath without submerging it so that the colour is deposited on the surface.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE:
Preparing the bath:
- The thickening bath must be prepared in advance.
- Sprinkle 2 teaspoons (7 grams) of Marbling thickener into 1 litre of cold water and mix vigorously with a whisk.
- Leave to stand for 2 hours.
- Pour a layer of gel 1 to 2 cm thick into a tray or bucket that is larger than the objects you wish to decorate.
Creating the marbling effect:
- Using the dropper, carefully place your chosen Marbling colours onto the surface of the gel. Alternate between light and dark colours; they will overlap but never mix.
- Allow the drops to spread for a few seconds before working them with a cotton bud. By directing the colours in different ways, you can create a variety of patterns and effects: circles, swirls… Simply apply drops of colour, one inside the other, to create concentric circles.
Once you have created the effects in the bath, carefully place the fabric or paper you wish to decorate – cut to size beforehand – onto the surface of the coloured bath. Leave it to sit for 10 to 15 seconds before removing it. Rinse quickly under running water to remove any excess gel and colour mixture. Place the decorated item on a flat surface and leave it to dry.
TIP:
Marbling paints can also be used in water without the marbling bath. The marbling effects are more pronounced and the shades more pastel.
